Calcanis on Zell’s comments about Google
Calcanis details precisely why Zell is clueless about the Net and destroys his argument about Google stealing content.
I mean, Zell says that for newspapers to continue to live, they will have to have a huge Net presence. Then he attacks Google News for linking to newspaper stories - where the newspapers run lots of ads. Hey Zell, Google is sending your traffic. To attack them means you truly don’t get it.
But of course, that’s not his aim. He could care less about newspapers. He’s just another pump-and-dump billionaire looking to exploit a sick company (and financing it largely through employee stock ownership plans, yeah, I bet the employees are thrilled by this), to spin off bits and pieces, to litigate his way to profits, then find another company and do it again.
It has nothing to do with newspapers or media.
