MySpace blocks Photobucket videos. Blogosphere aghast.

Some Photobucket videos have ads in them. MySpace asked them to stop, they refused, so MySpace blocked the entire site. What did they expect?

The tech blogosphere has had three major eruptions these past couple of weeks. Kathy Sierra. The Bloggers Code of Conduct. Now this. Much gnashing of teeth. Lots of flame wars and outrage. But compared to the political blogosphere, these eruptions seem unfocused, oddly juvenile, with little resolution.

Sure, political blogs have eruptions too. But they’re just more seasoned about it, more savvy about how things work, more likely to figure out a plan of action. Political bloggers, almost by definition, have to look way outside their blogosphere. Tech bloggers, I think, don’t do that nearly as much, and that’s to their detriment. I also bet they use social networking tools far more than political bloggers, and while such tools can be useful, they can also lead to spinning around in frenzied circles in a little self-defined world, hardly ever peeking outside.
