So yesterday, the automakers didn’t get a bailout and a prominent trader was arrested in a $50bn fraud – so the market went up.

This is not sane, and reminds of the days before Bear Stearns collapsed, when bad news was greeted by ludicrous and nonsensical rallies that didn’t last.
