Citysourced. A real time mobile civic engagement tool

Just spotted graffiti in your town (or a city you’re visiting)? Take a photo of it with your iPhone, and using the Citysourced app, it will get routed to the proper department in that city via Citysourced, who checks everything before forwarding it. Photos are geo-located so locations can easily be plotted on a map. San Jose, CA is already using it, and Citysourced provides them with extensive software and tracking capabilities.

CitySourced provides a free, simple, and intuitive tool empowering citizens to identify civil issues (potholes, graffiti, trash, snow removal, etc.) and report them to city hall for quick resolution; an opportunity for government to use technology to save money and improve accountability to those they govern; and a positive, collaborative platform for real action. Our platform is called CitySourced, as it empowers everyday citizens to use their smart phones to make their cities a better place. CitySourced is powered by FreedomSpeaks, the leader in interactive civic engagement.

  1. Hi Bob,

great find! The only issue I see here is that it doesnt appear Citysourced allows users to review submissions. What this means is the data goes only one way and there is no capability for citizens to measure the action taken by their government.

This would be easy to solve if they partnered their tool with an open mapping system such as ushahidi….
