Three year old Victoria Bensch wandered away from home in Arizona and was missing for 15 hours. That night temperatures dropped to below freezing. When rescuers found her, she was being protected and kept warm by their family dog, a Queensland heeler named Blue.
A helicopter spotted her the next morning. She wasn’t moving. They landed. Blue was apprehensive and protective of her. Then she smiled at them.
“I think once the dog realized we were there to help them out, he was very excited,” Uhl said. “He ran around while the medic tended to the little girl, and when it was time to go, he jumped right into the helicopter and was ready to go.”
“The dog kept her alert, warm and gave her companionship throughout a very cold night,” a sheriff said. Plus, just by being there, he kept predators like mountain lions, bobcats, and coyotes at bay.
After being examined at a hospital, Victoria was released and is fine.
