Rhyolite boomed in 1904 when gold was found, growing to a population 8,000 in the baking desert near Death Valley. Then the gold ran out and it was abandoned. It is the most-visited ghost town in the US. This is the Kelly Bottle House. Yes, it was built from bottles, and was lived in for years.
